Who’d have thought there was so much to do to start a small country cemetery! In the beginning, when the first Board of Directors of the Denman Island Memorial Society met, they thought the Cemetery Project would take two or three years and cost about $20,000. After all, there already was a promise of land and it was to be a gift. In fact, it took almost seven years and, including the donated materials and services, cost well over $100,000.
The fact that the various steps were completed and the Cemetery opened in October 2015 is a testimony to the energy and commitment of the early board members and the enthusiasm and generosity of members of the Denman community. This section of the website explains how this goal was achieved.
